Ableton Live 7's compressor has a built-in sidechain. it's nice and easy to use. D:

oh, also, since this is a general sidechain thread :roll Another fun thing to do sometimes is to sidechain compress ambient or atmospheric parts to hi-hats or other rhythmic things.

In Ableton 7, the autofilter and gate have sidechain capabilities also... much fun can be had while playing with them.

Renoise doesnt allow true sidechaining, as it lacks internal MIDI routing, so Ive worked for years without it, but now that Ive been using Reaper for mixdowns and Live for live setup, Im finding it often useful especially in the live set, keeps the kick and bass where they should be. But I jsut have to get the hang of it...

Question: Was sidechaining used back in the day, or is it a new thing?

Just curious
