this was a recommendation i had a while back.

A bit on the expensive side for me now but, its not too bad.

I use this:
http://us.creative.com/products/product ... tegory=208

This one is good too, cause you can upgrade it with the extra modules.
Sound Blaster X-Fi I/O Drive Upgrade Kit
and or:

More advanced and newer versio of it here:
http://us.creative.com/products/feature.asp?category=1

Think about it for a while though don't rush into buying something you dn't need though
Goodluck mate :D

My m-audio firewire audiophile does that on rare occasions. thankfully never when I'm actually using it, it just drops and when I go to listen to something, there is no sound. I've found that uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers gets it back. might work for yours, tho I'm sure you've tried that already.

Maybe im little late and you already bought a soundcard.
But my recommendation for you is to have pacience and save more, and get a GREAT soundcard, and not buy a new every few years. Id recommend you a RME Fireface 400 or RME Fireface 800. If you are going to take the music serious ofcourse, music needs love, its not just placing some random shit and go with it if that is the case, id recommend you not even buying a soundcard then. And the best you can do if you really burn for this is STUDY.
